New York Yankees ace starting pitcher Gerrit Cole became the only fourth active MLB pitcher to record 150 career wins on Thursday in his team’s 6-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians.

Cole reached this milestone with six innings of scoreless pitching in which he allowed only one hit and struck out two players against five walks.

Overall, he became the 226th player in major league history to reach the 150-win milestone. When we count among the active players, he is only the fourth player behind Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, and Clayton Kershaw. All these players have reached over 200 wins and surpassed the 200-win mark.

This season, when he is 33-years-old, he has now pitched to a 3.72 ERA/4.28 FIP with 62 strikeouts and 21 walks in 58 innings and 11 starts. This is not the best of Cole as he has performed way better in the past. This could be due to how the 2024 season has unfolded for him.

Due to an elbow injury, he was not able to make the start of the season until July 19. The effects of injury and the compromised routine have not allowed them to be at their best.

Well, he has reached the 150-win mark, how about 200. So, if we assume that he picks up two more wins this season, he’d be shy of 48 from 200. Fortunately, he is under contract till 2028 with the Yankees, so there will be plenty of opportunities for him to reach the magical 200 number.

For now, we can appreciate Gerrit Cole and his determination to reach this amazing milestone.
