The San Francisco 49ers are on a roll lately. Brock Purdy is playing quite well, as well as any quarterback in the NFL. The head coach, Kyle Shanahan, is also a god-level playmaker in the league. The 49ers are on their way to the Super Bowl if they keep this type of performance.
On Sunday night, the 49ers allowed 38 points to the Chicago Bears, but they still won this thriller by 4 points. In this win, Purdy scored five touchdowns, including a 38-yard score to Jauan Jennings in the last minutes.
Caleb Williams also had a big game and drove the Bears downfield. He had the Bears on the 2-yard line with four seconds to go. Have a look at this play.
The best play of the night came from Purdy in the third quarter. He avoided the pass rush and split two defensive linemen to step up and tossed it to Kyle Juszczyk for a touchdown. Purdy has been in the form of his life for the last few weeks, and Sunday night was no different.
Purdy and Christian McCaffrey put on a great show with a dominant performance despite tight end George Kittle not playing due to an injury. They also lost offensive tackle Trent Williams, who got out on the first play of the game with a hamstring injury.
Both teams scored heavily in the first half of the game. Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards picked off Purdy on the first play of the game and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown. That was one of the few things the Bears’ defence did right in the first half.
By the end of the first quarter, Purdy had a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown. It became the first game of the season where both teams scored two touchdowns in the first quarter.
Both teams made history in this game as the points kept coming in the second half. The game was tied 7-7, 14-14, 21-21, 28-28, and 35-35. It has happened for the first time in NFL history. Offenses of both teams were great, but defenses were not so much.
In the end, the Bears faced a fourth and five with 33 seconds. There, they had gone with hook-and-ladder play, and it got them to the 2-yard line. It gave them one more chance to play. However, Williams couldn’t find anyone open as he threw an incomplete pass into the end zone.
Overall, the 49ers’ offense is looking like a million bucks, but they have to work on their defense.
