Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced that Towhid Hridoy has been handed a four-match ban from the Bashundhara Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League with immediate effect.
He was charged with showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during the match. The charges were brought by on-field umpires Moniruzzaman Tinku and Ali Arman Rajon, third umpire Muhammad Kamruzzaman, and fourth official ATM Ikram.
Hridoy stood at the crease for a while after being caught during the last game in the league. The punishment came into effect after the batter was found guilty of breaching the BCB code of conduct for players and player support personnel during the ongoing DPDCL at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on 26 April 2025.
He was handed a one-match ban earlier, but denied accepting the punishment and voiced his opinion against it. Here is what BC said in a release. “Mr. Hridoy denied the charge and opted to contest it at a full disciplinary hearing. However, despite prior communication, he failed to appear at the hearing scheduled in the umpires’ dressing room.”
“This latest demerit point brings Mr. Hridoy’s total to eight (8) demerit points, including seven (7) accumulated from previous breaches. As a result, he will serve a four (4)-match suspension, effective immediately.”
According to Article 5.2.6 of the Code of Conduct, match referee Akhtar Ahmad proceeded with the matter and imposed a fine of Taka 10,000 and also one demerit point.
According to Article 2.8 of the BCB Code of Conduct, “Showing Dissent at an Umpire’s Decision during a Match,” carries a minimum sanction of warning and a maximum penalty of Taka 40,000 and/or one (1) or two (2) demerit points.
“This latest demerit point brings Mr. Hridoy’s total to eight (8) demerit points, including seven (7) accumulated from previous breaches. As a result, he will serve a four (4)-match suspension, effective immediately,” the statement added.
