Australia is touring Bangladesh for an ODI series this summer. Bangladesh surprised everyone by securing its first ODI series win against Australia. After winning the first game by five wickets in Dhaka, they chased down a small target of 192 in a rain-affected game.
Australia was able to reach a meager total of 187 for 8 after 42 overs when rain came. However, they did well to reach that stage because they lost their first three wickets for 0 runs. With this, they became only the fourth team in ODI history to hold that record.
Taskin Ahmad and Mustafizur Rahman were the bowlers who dealt early blows to Australia. Both finished with three wickets each in the complete game.
Despite these early setbacks, Australia hung on and made significant progress in the middle overs. Thanks to excellent fifties from Marnus Labuschagne and Xavier Bartlett. Their tenacity proved to be a vital part for Australia as they put together a 103-run stand.
After the rain, Bangladesh was asked to chase a modest 192 in 41 overs, according to the DLS method.
In the second innings, Bartlett started with an excellent spell, thanks to his confidence after his fifty earlier in the innings. He took the wicket of Tnazid Hasan after the Bangladeshi batsman gave a single return catch. Off the fifth ball, he dropped Shanto; however, it was a difficult catch. Of the last ball of the over, Shanto was given LBW, but he reviewed and was saved.
After that, nothing extraordinary happened. Both Sarkar and Shanto stabilized the innings and started to score quickly before Sarkar got out in the 16th over.
After the second wicket, Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but the score was never threatening. Sarkar, Shanto, and Hridoy made above 40 in their brief stay at the crease.
Bangladesh won the game by five wickets in the 35th over. Bartlett, Riley Meredith, Zampa, Renshaw, and Green took 1 wicket each for Australia.
Here is the brief score of the game.
Bangladesh 195 for 5 (Soumya 42, Shanto 42, Hridoy 40*)
Australia 187 for 8 (Labuschagne 55*, Bartlett 52, Mustafizur 3-27, Taskin 3-33)
