Australia won the Ashes series by 4-1 and gained 12 World Test Championship points with a last victory at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Australia bowled out the visitors for 342 on the final day, and they chased down an easy target of 160 runs. Australia went on to win the match by five wickets with Jake Weatherald and Marnus Labuschagne’s significant contributions. However, they were pushed by the English team with their bowling and fielding efforts.
England denied Usman Khawaja a fairy-tale finish to his Test career by dismissing him on just 6 runs. In the end, Alex Carey (16 not out) and Cameron Green (22 not out) finished the game for Australia.
This win solidifies Australia’s position in the top spot on the World Test Championship 2025-2027 cycle. Now, they have 87.50 percent of the possible points in the cycle. New Zealand sits in second place after defeating the West Indies.
Earlier, Mitchell Starc was able to dismiss the 22-year-old supertar, Jacob Bethell, with the second new ball. However, before being dismissed, Bethell crossed the 150 mark.
The youngster looked in good touch when he was batting with the tail. However, Starc found an outside edge of Bethell on 154, and Alex Carey finished the job by taking an easy catch.
During the chase in the fourth innings, many batters made starts. However, Travis Head (29) and Jake Weatherald (34) were both undone by Josh Toungue.
Marnus Labuschagne fell prey to a mix-up on 37, and Steve Smith was beaten by Will Jacks on 12. In the end, Carey and Green took Australia home patiently. Carey finished the game with a boundary.
