Masters Chairman Fred Ridley made a promise three years ago that his club, Augusta National, was going to branch out into a community like never before. He partnered with local establishments to remake the Augusta Municipal Golf Course.
The remade course is named “The Patch.” It will open to the public next week. On Wednesday Morning, two-time major champion Retief Goosen was getting a run at it for the first time. It was part of a soft launch for VIPs during this Masters week.
Goosen and other players found that it was a good course, and over time, it will become even better. It is a great place to hang out or a great place for Augusta Juniors to learn the game. It will also be a great place for the public to find affordable golf.
The Patch project should be considered a success by all means. Couse designers Tom Fazio and Beau Welling made it a much more compelling track that what it was before. For this project many trees were removed. Removal of trees opened up an sprawling scenery that was hidden. After some time, the grees will grow in this course. It will be one of the most fun public course in the vicinity of Masters.
The public will decide how the vibe is. However, the veranda wrapped around the clubhouse peers out over the 10th tee and 9th green. So, it will become a place you’d want to have lunch.
Tiger Woods also designed a short course here called The Loop. It could be real treat for guests. On tuesday night, guests played its well lit holes after bedtime.
