Bosa Brothers Reunion? 49ers Eye Joey Bosa Signing

    Bosa Brothers Reunionn

Over a hotly contested free-agent situation, Joey Bosa is almost singular in that he is facing the first free-agency test in his career, and there are indications that his sojourn into the open market may be brief.

Reports that came to light Sunday are hinting that Bosa is closing in on a deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Certainly, having spoken to Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard, there’s an inclination toward the reunification of Joey with his brother Nick in San Francisco.

Although no agreement appears to be inked yet, the conversations between the parties are quite active, with an expectation of a “moderate deal plus bonuses” tied closely to Bosa’s past injury history.

The Chargers part ways with Joey Bosa on Thursday, freeing up $25 million in cap space. Both Ohio State Wildcats, weren’t on the same field together, as Nick arrived at campus in 2016 while Joey had already left. For years, there’s been buzz surrounding the desire of both to play together as teammates.

For the 2024 season, Joey Bosa, at 29 years of age, recorded only five sacks in 14 games. This follows up on the two previous seasons where he had spluttered through 14 games and managed only nine sacks. However, Joey remains a five-time Pro Bowler who played at a high level until his decline after 2021.

The years 2019 to 21 saw Joey secure 29.5 sacks and be among the best in the league as a pass rusher. In contrast, Nick Bosa has made a name for himself as one of the best defensive players in the NFL. He was named 2022 Defensive Player of the Year and is a five-time Pro Bowler. He had nine sacks in 14 games during the 2024 season.

Playing with his brother could very easily rejuvenate Joey Bosa’s career, and he appears to be on the verge of making that transition.
