The Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, and Chicago White Sox have completed a three way trade. In this trade, the right-handed starter Erick Fredde will go to the Cardinals, injured Tommy Edman to the Dodgers, and a mix of players to the White Sox.
The team announced this exchange on Monday. White Sox reliever, Michael Kopech is going to the Dodgers Miguel Vargas is going from the Dodgers to the White Sox, while Tommy Pham is going to Cardinals.
Apart from Vargas, the White Sox will also get Jarel Perez, Alexander Albertus and a player to be named later.
This might sound confusing, but here is what is happening in this three-way deal.
Dodgers Receive – Michael Kopech, Oliver Gonzalez, Tommy Edman
Cardinal Receive – Tommy Pham, Erick Fredde, and a player to be named later from the Dodgers
White Sox Receive – Jeral Perez, Miguel Vargas, and Alexander Albertus
Fredde has been a player of great caliber this season for White Sox in his return to the MLB. His stats are amazing, in 121 2/3 innings, he’s pitched to a 3.11 ERA with only one unearned run allowed.
Fredde is signed to a very reasonable contract. For the 2024 season, he’s owed $7.5 million. He also has a commitment for the next season for the same salary.
On the other hand, Edman is yet to play in the majors this season as he is recovering from the offseason wrist injury. He is on a minor league rehab assignment.
