The second quarterback from New Orleans is in the news after Tyler Shough was snubbed from the Rookie of the Year Award. In the same ceremony, Mike Vrabel won the Coach of the Year Award.
Carr did not live up to the expectations with the Saints. This can be coupled with the surprise breakout of the rookie quarterback, Tyler Shough. He would like to get another go at competing in the league. This could be good news for the Saints.
An NFL analyst, Gerard Angelo Samillano, discussed the potential return of Carr in the league. Here is what he said about it.
“A former Pro Bowl quarterback is reportedly thinking about returning to the league. Less than a year ago, Derek Carr announced his retirement from the NFL. A player for the New Orleans Saints, Carr’s recurring injury issues led to his decision to hang up his cleats. Now, it seems like Carr is ready to pick his cleats up again.”
“Should Carr unretire this offseason, it would be a benefit to the Saints. While they already have a quarterback they’re evaluating in Tyler Shough, Carr still holds value as a potential trade chip. While the return might be small, any recompensation for Carr would be valuable for a rebuilding team like the Saints.”
Saints fans would like to see more production from him in New Orleans. But that doesn’t mean that they will not receive trade offers from other teams. There are a few teams desperate to add a quality quarterback to their side. The Minnesota Vikings are one of those teams that have a struggling quarterback in J.J. McCarthy. But, it doesn’t mean that Minnesota can’t find a quarterback or get a better one in free agency. All I’m saying is that they could end up settling for Carr if there is not a better option.
The Super Bowl contenders are also in need of quality backups. Carr could certainly fill that position for sure. Carr’s return is good news for the Saints.
